According to the Blue Letter Bible, there are 855 instances where the New Testament quotes the Old Testament. For example, Isaiah 7:14 says, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son and shall name him Immanuel.” Matthew 1:23 restates the same verse, “‘Look, the virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,’ which means, ‘God is with us.'” Even Yeshua (Jesus) himself restates the creation story from Genesis.
The significance of the New Testament quoting the Old Testament is this, it shows that the scriptures stand true yesterday, today, and forever just as Yahweh (God) is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
