Old Testament

  • Signal for the approach of the Israelites to Mount Sinai
    Exodus 19:16-17 (NRSV)
    16 On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, as well as a thick cloud on the
    mountain and a blast of a trumpet so loud that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17
    Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God. They took their stand at the foot of the
    mountain.

  • Signals Jesus’ return to earth
    Matthew 24:31
    And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four
    winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
  • The resurrection of the dead at Jesus’ return
    1 Corinthians 15:52
